I finally slogged through getting these edited and online. It is now 3:32am but I’m giddy – from being punchy true but also from seeing all these photos again of everyone there (me, Jeff, Hayley, Uncle Jay, Grandma Sharen and Grandpa John). Thanks to Jeff’s folks for this great trip.
There are hundreds of photos posted!

It starts with a Christmas Eve tradition where we make gingerbread house … and this year it was a triplex … three kits put together … And it ends with our Christmas day tradition where we pick off what we want, haul it to the cul de sac and smash it with remote control cars … as you can tell, we are a really sweet family. Also some Christmas day photos

I’ll post more photos soon (I know, I have so many to post) but we had a great time tonight at the UNC-VT women’s game so I had to post a few! Hayley was a ballgirl, my Mom, Dad and Aunt Cathie all game to cheer on the Heels and Jeff came in all his VT stuff. And then my good friend Margaret ended up being at the game too!
Hayley was a great ball girl and added about 10 signatures to her shoes – Coach Hatchell signed the tips of each shoe, it was cool. I got to chat with my favorite assistant coach Tracey Williams and she was telling Coach Hatchell how much I’d helped her with info on NC kids. So that was a really nice treat. It’s pretty cool when a head coach and assistant at the #2 program in the country know you by name. Hayley got to play around in the locker room as well which she loves. A good night was had by all!

Couple of photos of the family as Thanksgiving was ended. I keep hoping to take more photos but that’s tough from in the kitchen. Of course most of the photos would be of the guys watching football or everyone eating!

back row: Jeff, Gordon (my dad). next row: Sharen (Jeff’s mom), John (Jeff’s dad) and then Joanne (my mom). next row: Jay (Jeff’s brother), next row: Cathie (my aunt) and then lowest row: Hayley.

We were really luck to have a chance to have Hayley’s birthfather’s mom and sister visit. Maw Maw Jenny and Aunt Regina were passing through the area and dropped by to see Hayley and share photos with her. It was a lovely visit and they are really nice people. Hayley is lucky to have more people join her life who want nothing more to know and love her in a healthy way.

Great-Grandma Faye, Grandma Sharen and Uncle Jay came down for a visit this weekend. They got spend some time with us and to see Hayley’s final soccer game of the season.
Great-Grandma Faye hadn’t met Hayley yet so this was a lovely treat. She flew down from IL to VA, and then Sharen and Jay drove down to NC with her. It was a gorgeous day to be outside and watch soccer with family.

Hayley’s school has a grandparents/special person breakfast as school twice a year. This year Jeff’s folks were coming down for the UNC-VT game that weekend, so they were able to go.
Hopefully next time they have this breakfast, Hayley will be able to bring even more people with her because the more love she gets, the better. And there is nothing better than grandparents!

Special to The Roanoke Times
The Virginia FFA Association needed a way to honor the man who inspired its members and teachers for the past 30 years.
So the farm youth organization created the John H. Hillison Middle School Quiz Bowl Award to mark the retirement of the veteran Virginia Tech professor and administrator.
“John Hillison has been an inspiration for all agriculture teachers in the state,” said Susan Shomo, agriculture education teacher at Beverly Manor Middle School in Staunton.
A former student of Hillison’s, Shomo said, “He has allowed us to ask questions. … He helped us find the answers to help us become better teachers.”
Hillison, who has been at Tech since 1976, described himself as pleasantly surprised when the new award was announced at a recent FFA convention.
The award will provide money to help the state winner in the FFA Middle School Quiz Bowl attend the national FFA convention.
Hillison retires at the end of this month as professor and department head of agricultural and extension education at Tech. This week, he is taking part in the Virginia Association of Agricultural Educators Convention in Richmond.
Hillison said he has learned an important fact about agricultural education.
“The most important person is the classroom teacher and FFA adviser,” he said.
He is looking forward to staying involved, teaching at least one class a year at Tech and volunteering in the agricultural education department at Blacksburg High School.
Shomo credited Hillison with helping Virginia middle school agricultural teachers develop “Ag in the Classroom Curriculum,” a program keyed to the state’s Standards of Learning.
Hillison is known throughout the nation as an FFA historian. This interest is fueled by his work at Virginia Tech, birthplace of FFA. The FFA History Room is just down the hall from his office in Litton Reeves Hall at Tech.
Hillison, an Illinois native who got his doctorate at Ohio State University, was featured in the June 2006 edition of FFA New Horizons, the magazine of the national FFA organization.
