We are back from a fun-filled trip to Great Wolf Lodge with our next-door neighbors and their two kids. Jeff had to be at work so he kindly took care of Annabelle and our neighbor’s pup too while we all goofed off for three days. The kids spent lots of time at the waterpark – the beauty of going during the week is much shorter lines for the rides. Hayley and Mason played Magiquest for hours and had a sleepover each night. We had fun checking out the GWL’s Halloween stuff, the decorations were really neat.
Most of the photos are with my iphone or Hayley’s camera – which in low light in a waterpark or lodge mean they are pretty grubby shots. But oh well, we were too busy relaxing and having fun to worry about it.

So last week Jeff figured out a mistake in the show Raising Hope – something in an episode conflicted with another episode.
On a whim, I tweeted Greg Garcia, the guy who created the show to ask him about it. Amazingly he tweeted me back and confirmed they screwed up. I told him that made our night, how much we loved the show and how my daughter was excited b/c Greyson Chance will play young Jimmy. He tweeted back that we’d love the next ones and that Shannon says hi, sending us this photo:
A photo of Shannon Woodward (aka Sabrina on the show) waving hello to us!
We were so excited. This was the night before their season premiere and the show creator is tweeting with us, taking photos for us! So Hayley took the iPad and sent a message to Shannon via Greg.
Greg went even further and took a photo of Shannon and Kate Micucci (aka Shelley who runs the crazy dog, pet, baby daycare on the show) holding up the babies that PLAY HOPE and sending a message back to Hayley!
HOW COOL WAS THAT? I love the internet. This is the guy who not only created Raising Hope but also My Name is Earl and Yes, Dear… messing around online with some fans.

It’s hard to dislike birthdays when you have these two loves to celebrate with.

We caught up with Hayley’s sister Rachel and her family to end the month of July. Amazing to see how much these kids are growing up!

I’m so behind in posting photos again. Then I actually looked at the pages here and lordy those are way behind too. Hayley’s in seventh grade and some places still reference fourth grade – oops. Two of our pups on our dogs page have passed away, Buster our beagle last month. I’ve got to update things around here.
Until I do, here are three lovely photos the amazing Graham Morrison took of Hayley.
Her hair was pink for most of the late summer too:

The moviemaking camp Hayley was in this summer had their big screen premiere for their films at the Varsity Theatre, a real theater in Chapel Hill this afternoon. The theater is one I went to a kid so it was absolutely amazing to see her on the big movie screen there!
Hayley was one of the vampires in the Gothic/Supernatural short film entitled Maximum Judgment. The film is about 25 minutes long and fantastic. It was scary enough they had to tell people they might want to take any little kids out for that short… so you know Hayley, the horror film fanatic, was thrilled with making it and how it turned out.
With the help from the staff, the kids write the script, bring in props & costumes, do each others makeup and even help film it. This is an amazing camp with fantastic staff. The kids did an super job – the instructors even said how they took more shots and footage of this group than any other camp. Really just an amazing group of people all around!
I posted the movie on Vimeo:

A fabulous new modern art museum, the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM) just opened downtown Raleigh this year. I’d been looking for a good art camp, one that offered more than the average ones seemed to and I found CAM, in conjunction with the N.C. State School of Design, had these small group art+design camps for rising 7th and 8th graders.
The one-week summer studio session merges conceptual development with hands-on explorations and emphasizes the importance of the design process from the initial idea to the final product. Through one-on-one instruction with local designers you will develop your unique voice and individual abilities to bring creative ideas to life by utilizing critical thinking techniques that artists, architects, and designers rely on to convey conceptual and real propositions. In the collaborative studio setting you will explore hand-drawing, printmaking, physical modeling, sculpture, collage, and many other forms of creative media.
Clearly, I’d found the camp to send Hayley. She had a fantastic time and the last day they had an exhibit of all of their work from the week.
Her favorite piece, this stencil she designed, they cut for her and she used oil pastels to fill in:

The photos are a bit blurry as Hayley took them in the NCCU gym (and gyms always have terrible light) but they are pretty awesome photos of Hayley and her friend with some very cool folks at NC ProAm basketball tonight. They were excited to watch some summer basketball and get autographs from a bunch of UNC players – Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall, Dexter Strickland, PJ Hairston, Raymond Felton and John Henson.
I’ll post more pictures later.

Kendall wore some neon pink laces and Hayley loves neon and had her own neon laces on tonight so he took a photo of she and her friend’s shoes with his and tweeted it. I love that kid!
