Hayley started U7 CASL soccer last night – woo hoo! She is loving playing and running around the field. Practice is run by two college students who seem very enthusiastic. And the other parents seem like a nice bunch, especially the ones who are the official coaches (you have to be 21 so the college kids couldn’t coach).
She has games every Saturday until May 12th at fields all over the area. They even got cute little real jerseys, shorts and socks. They are the Stargazers!
Each team only has eight kids and they play 4 on 4 at the games, no refs, no goalies. So it is a fun experience.

A chance to watch the UNC women’s basketball team run all over UVA was too much fun for Hayley and Michelle to pass up when Hayley’s soccer practice was canceled.
Hayley got to pose with Ramses, get Raymond Felton’s autograph on her Felton jersey, meet Camille Little (who Michelle awarded the 3A Miss Basketball a few years ago) and cheer with the UNC cheerleaders for the final 10 minutes of the game. Can’t beat all of that plus a 29 point win over the Cavs.

Hayley and I went over to Chapel Hill to see some friends at the NCHSAA offices and after headed over to UNC to the end of women’s basketball practice.
I had a good long talk with the women’s SID and they again mentioning have Hayley be a ball girl next year. Hayley was SO excited about doing that and she was just dying to run all over the court then and there.
Coach Hatchell came over for a bit and we talked about the win over Duke and how happy she is Alana Beard is gone.
So Coach asks Hayley if she is coming to camp and I said, she’s too young. Coach asked when her birthday was (she’ll be 7 in April but camp is 8 and up). So she then tells us that she’ll make an exception for Hayley as long as she can get a shot up there. I’m so excited and Hayley was thrilled.
And the coolest thing – they dropped the age for me in 1978 too! The minimum age used to be 10 but my folks asked several times for the former coach to drop it down to 8, which she finally did … but I still was only 7 and a half. They took me and kept an extra close eye on me, which meant I got to know all the players and coaches extra well. Now that’s a family tradition!
Hayley is already practicing her shot!

We lucked out and were given some wonderful seats (third row, center of the court) by Charlie, a friend from the site Michelle works at. Hayley was all dressed up in her gear – got to meet Ramses, cheerleaders and a handful of players.

Soccer started two weeks ago but they gave Hayley a look and are letting her play in the advanced group! Ten kids, only one other girl besides her. She’s working hard on skills but her speed, aggression and attitude let her jump right in the mix and play! She loved so we signed up for the rest of the indoor season.
These photos suck – indoor odd lighting and a net around things but you can still see she is happy and running around.

With Jeff, Michelle, Hayley, Uncle Jay, Granddad John, Grandma Sharen and Grandpa Tommy, we hit the UNC-VT game.
We had a great time, by the second half we had everyone sitting together and having a blast.
Hayley got to wear her winter UNC cheerleading uniform and we all got to enjoy a really good football game.

I’ve been so busy with the adoption stuff that I’m just getting around to posting the nearly 150 photos from the UNC World’s Greatest Alumni game in August. Tons of cool photos!

I’m going to add more photos to this story after each game…
No wins yet but the kids are having lots of fun. The entire team has signed up to play together next year for spring and fall soccer. Just a really great bunch of kids, parents and coaches.
Hayley had her first goal in a game in the Game 5 loss, 8-4. She’s really working hard and doing well!
