I came out after a meeting and Hayley had made a huge fractions board, then was adding the numbers used in each fraction with the one in the same row and then charting the results by color in a grid.
I stood there with my mouth hanging open when I saw it all! The math program we have her enrolled in is really making big strides in her level of understanding. She is working on early multiplication now at home with us – something I thought she was way far from getting. She can now do everything up to 3 x 5, which is pretty darned great for a kid who just finished 2nd grade – not to mention finished 2nd grade behind in math.

A few snapshots from this morning, our last morning of second grade!
House on a sunny day (this morning)
Hayley decided to show me how she gets things down from the cabinets. (SIGH)
Last night after soccer we decorated the big tub she takes to camp. We got some paint pens from Hallmark and that was so fun – I felt like I was back in HS or in college doing sorority stuff. She is so creative!
Last day of second grade – THIRD grade up next!
Oh yeah, i’m coooooool
Rock on (her friend taught her this and she loves doing it now)
Dropping her off at carpool and watching her head in for the last day of second grade.

Well considering last year’s school photo didn’t even look like a professional took it, I took some cute photos of Hayley this morning before photo day.

Each child in the first grade classes had to pick a planet and do a story, poem, model or shadow box. Hayley picked Jupiter and made a great model of it! All the classes paraded around the school and the parents. I also took some photos of school stuff too and her being goofy afterward.

I feel so old, we are planning the 15 year reunion for the Chapel Hill High Class of 1988.
A lot of people tell me how much they hated high school but I really didn’t. I had a good time – it wasn’t all fun and games but I learned from the crappy times too.
Gary Hill and I kept trying to figure out who was planning the reunion – and when we couldn’t find anyone, we started working on it ourselves.
I started a site for the reunion, chhs88reunion.com. And we’ve had our first meeting and about 1,000 emails so far. I was really excited to fine a diverse group of people who wanted to get involved and really pitch in.
The meeting was a blast, ended up three hours – how many three hour meetings can you say are fun? I had the yearbook, Gary brought his class of 88 tshirt and it was great to see people again.
And I’m getting such excited emails back from classmates hearing about the reunion.
Picnic during the day, Bailey’s (we think) that night. Should be a lot of fun!

Congratulations on being admitted to the Certificate in Technology and
Communication Program at the University of North Carolina.
You will be getting a formal letter regarding your admission and next
steps, but I wanted to be the first to let you know. I am certain you
will do well in the program, and I think you also can give us feedback
to help us improve what we are doing.
